Bug fixes: Get a free update!

  1. On a computer: In iTunes, click Apps (far left) and Check for Updates (bottom right). Then, sync to your device(s). Or on a mobile device: On the App Store, tap Updates (bottom right).
  2. Check that you have the most recent version (3.6.3): Launch the app, tap the little i in the lower-right corner. (iPad: The i is visible when viewing the list of flights.) At the bottom of the page, see About FlightTrack…

Known bugs

We are working to fix these bugs:

  • iOS 4 only: Flight times or dates off (after arriving in a new time zone). Or lack of data updates. Solution:
    1. Double-click the indented home button.
    2. At the bottom of the screen, hold your finger on the FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro icon until red circles appear.
    3. Tap the red circle on FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro.
    4. Return to the home screen and re-launch the app.
  • Calendar syncing: Flight times are currently not adjusted for time zone.
  • Airport Board View: Some flights are not displayed.

Inaccurate, missing, or delayed data

Via our data provider, FlightStats, we show flight info provided by the airline, the FAA, and the two airports. If you encounter inaccurate, missing, or delayed data in our app…

  • Please email us and provide the info below. We will respond soon.
    - Airline & flight number.
    - Departure date & departure airport.
    - Details regarding the error.

Also…

  • Check for flight-data notes: View the Details page and scroll down.
  • If you are using iOS 4:
    1. At the home screen, double-click the indented home button.
    2. In the recents list (bottom of the screen), hold your finger on any app icon until it begins to wiggle.
    3. Tap the red circle on FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro.
    4. Return to the home screen and re-launch the app.

Reasons for data problems:

  • An airline occasionally provides info on its own web site but not to the flight-tracking industry. Some airlines (e.g., Southwest Airlines) provide no times for actual gate departure or gate arrival.
  • Gate and terminal assignments are often not provided until about 60 minutes before departure. Unfortunately, some airlines (particularly non-US carriers, including most airlines in Europe) don’t release such information to the flight-tracking industry. When available, we list gate and terminal beginning two days before departure.
  • The FAA requires a delay of up to 5 min. for live flight data.
  • Low-budget airlines (e.g., Allegiant Air, Ryanair, easyJet) often supply no data, so the flight may not be listed in our app until near departure time (at which point some data is usually available from other sources).
  • Charter flights (e.g., Thomas Cook, Monarch) generally produce no data.

Can’t find your flight?

  • Try Search by Route but with no airline, because an airline may change flight number or switch to an “affiliate” carrier.
  • Check the airline web site, because perhaps the airline doesn’t fly on the day you need.

Common solutions

If you experience any unusual behavior in FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro, these common solutions will likely get everything working again…

    3. Tap the red circle on FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro.
    4. Return to the home screen and re-launch the app.
  • Restart your device:
Hold the top button until the red slider appears, to power off. Then, press the same button again until the Apple logo appears.
  • Get the most recent version of the app (free update):
    - On a computer: In iTunes, click Apps (far left) and Check for Updates (bottom right). Then, sync to your device(s).
    - Or on a mobile device: On the App Store, tap Updates (bottom right).
  • Rarely, you may need to delete and re-install:
At your device’s home screen, touch and hold the app icon for a moment, release your finger, and tap the x. Then, re-download for free (see right column).

To purchase: View the flight list, tap the plus at the upper right, and then tap By Airport.

Tips & tricks

Sync with TripIt

FlightTrack Pro can display flights listed in a TripIt account. Paid TripIt Pro is not required.

  1. Visit TripIt (mobile site or full site), open a free account, and add flights.
  1. Or forward confirmation email to plans@tripit.com. Send from your preferred email address (not a booking site), so the From field will bear that address. Wait a minute to receive a response from TripIt. Next, click on the link in the message to start a free account. (Trouble submitting plans? Visit TripIt’s help page.)
  2. In FlightTrack Pro: Tap i at the lower right and tap Log In. (iPad: The i is visible when viewing the list of flights.)

Trouble syncing to TripIt

If FlightTrack Pro won’t stay synced to TripIt, or if TripIt flights won’t auto-delete, or if you see any error message…

To fix almost any trouble regarding syncing, follow these steps:

  1. Update your app, so you have the most recent version of FlightTrack Pro.
  2. Optional—On your mobile device, visit TripIt’s mobile site. If you are logged in: Tap Logout at the bottom left.
  3. Optional—Fully restart your device: Hold the top button until the red slider appears, to power off. Then, press the same button again until the Apple logo appears.
  4. In FlightTrack Pro: Tap i at the lower right. Tap Log Out if you see that. Then, tap Log In. (iPad: The i is visible when viewing the list of flights.)

Rarely, you may need to delete and re-install an app: At your device’s home screen, touch and hold the app icon for a moment, release your finger, and tap the x. Then, re-download for free.

Also check:

  • Do you have future flights? Check your TripIt account (mobile site or full site).
  • Enable cookies: At your home screen, tap Settings, then Safari, Accept Cookie, From Visited.
  • Turn Safari restrictions off: At your home screen, tap Settings, then General, then Restrictions.
  • Multi-leg flights: Might not appear, because TripIt sometimes lists these as one flight. At TripIt.com: View your flight, click Options and choose Delete. Then click “Add plans” and add each leg of the flight.

If your flight “could not be recognized”:

  • Usually means a detail is incorrect or missing.
    - Try Search by Route but with no airline, because an airline may change flight number or switch to an “affiliate” carrier.
    - Check TripIt.com: Verify the airline code, airport code, flight number, and date. To make changes: View your flight, click Options and choose Edit.
  • May mean that data is not available. Note:
    - Low-budget airlines (e.g., Allegiant Air, Ryanair, easyJet) often supply no data, so the flight may not be listed in our app until near departure time (at which point some data is usually available from other sources).
    - Charter flights (e.g., Thomas Cook, Monarch) generally produce no data.

Push alerts (notifications)

  • Are “free” (not counted as text messages).
  • Are sent (if info is available from airline, airports, or FAA):
    - 2 hours before gate departure
    - 1 hour before gate departure
    - for gate changes
    - for time changes more than 10 min. apart
    - for status changes (departed, arrived, cancelled, etc.)
  • May be turned on/off per flight: On the details page, scroll down to Push Alerts.
  • May be turned on/off globally: At your home screen, tap Settings and then Notifications.
  • Will not arrive…
    - if your device is completely powered off
    - if you have no web connection
    - if you have a jailbroken iPhone

Tips & tricks (FlightTrack Pro only)

  • To start: Tap the plus at the upper right to find a flight. Then, tap Save. (iPad: The plus is visible when viewing the list of flights.) Or sync with a TripIt account.
  • Auto-delete: Occurs after 24 hours. (So you don’t miss late-arriving data, a flight imported from TripIt stays in FlightTrack Pro for 24 hours after landing, whether or not it appears in your TripIt account.)
  • Duplicate TripIt flight: To delete, visit TripIt.com, view your flight, click Options and choose Delete.
  • Incoming flight: To check for a delay of the incoming leg of a multi-leg flight (with the same flight number), save a flight and scroll down to Incoming Flight.
