FlightTrack & FlightTrack Pro

Check the App Store for updates!

FlightTrack 3.1 and FlightTrack Pro 3.1 are available—with zoomable maps, satellite and weather radar imagery and more. Updates are always free.

Report missing or delayed data

Help us improve our data coverage! If you encounter delayed, missing, or inaccurate info please email us, and provide:

  1. Airline + flight number + date.
  2. Expected data.
  3. What FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro displayed.

Most common reasons for data problems

  • The FAA requires a delay (up to 5 min.) in live flight data.
  • An airline may announce a delay/cancellation on its own web site, but not to the flight-tracking industry.
  • Some airlines, including low-budget airlines and most charter airlines, don’t supply any data to the flight-tracking industry. (But data from the airport and other sources may be available close to departure time.)
  • Many airlines release gate information no more than about 60 minutes before departure. But some airlines, particularly non-US carriers, don’t provide any gate information to the flight-tracking industry.

Can’t find your flight?

  • Airlines may change flight number or switch to an “affiliate” airline. Try Search by Route, but don’t specify an airline.
  • Maybe the airline doesn’t fly on the day you are checking? To be sure, check the airline web site.
  • Some low-cost European airlines don’t provide advance information on their flights, so data may not be listed until just before flight time. Charter airlines generally supply no data to the flight-tracking industry.

App Store & iTunes issues

  1. Need to re-download? “Repurchase” FlightTrack or FlightTrack Pro or the FlightTrack Pro upgrade for free, by using the same Apple ID you used when you first purchased.
  2. Need a refund? Purchased by mistake? Duplicate purchase? These are handled by iTunes. Please contact iTunes Store Customer Service.

Odd trouble (won’t stop “Updating”; etc.)

  • A complete restart fixes otherwise unexplainable trouble with an app. (Hold the top button on your iPhone or iPod touch for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide to power off. Press the top button again, until the Apple logo appears.)
  • Rarely, you may need to delete and re-install an app.
    – To delete: At your iPhone or iPod touch home screen, touch and hold the FlightTrack Pro app icon for a moment, release your finger, and then tap the x.
    – To repurchase: Download the app again at the App Store. You won’t be charged if you download as you did the first time (using the same Apple ID): either FlightTrack Pro or first FlightTrack and then the in-app upgrade.

Tips & Tricks (FlightTrack, FlightTrack Pro)

  • Change a saved flight: Go to the list of flights, tap the Edit button in the upper left, and then tap a flight.
  • Data refreshing: Data is automatically refreshed every 5 minutes. To refresh sooner: When viewing a flight, tap the little circular arrow at the bottom left.
  • Delete a flight: View your list of flights, swipe your finger over a flight, and then tap Delete. Or, tap the Edit button at the upper left and then tap the red circle.
  • Email or tweet flight info: While viewing a saved flight, tap the little arrow at the upper right.
  • Find alternate flights: View a saved flight, scroll down, and tap Find Alternate Flights.
  • General aviation flights: We are looking into tracking general aviation flights, but this is not currently available.
  • Recently Used list: When searching for a flight, the 5 most recently used airlines and the 5 most recently used airports are listed, in order from most recent to least recent.
  • Speed & altitude: Appear in an animated display at the upper right (but only when a flight is in US airspace).

FlightTrack Pro is available on the App Store.

FlightTrack Pro

Upgrading

To upgrade from FlightTrack to FlightTrack Pro: In FlightTrack, tap the i at the lower right, and then the green Upgrade button.

  • The upgrade costs $4.99.
  • After upgrading, the app icon does not change (due to a limitation of the operating system of the iPhone and iPod touch), but your app is otherwise 100% FlightTrack Pro!

Sync FlightTrack Pro with a TripIt account

Here’s how to sync FlightTrack Pro with a TripIt account (a paid subscription to TripIt Pro is not required!):

  1. Forward airline confirmation email to plans@tripit.com.
(Use your preferred email address, so the “from” field will bear that address. Don’t send from a booking site.)
  2. Wait a few minutes to receive email from TripIt.
(Add support@tripit.com to your safe-sender list. If you are new to TripIt, click on the link in the TripIt message to confirm your email address and activate your account.)
  3. Make sure FlightTrack Pro is logged in.
(Open FlightTrack Pro, tap the i button at the lower right, and tap Log In. If prompted, type your TripIt email address and password. Check “I trust…” and tap “Sign up and grant access.”)

Trouble with syncing?

  • Make sure you have future flights listed at TripIt.com.
  • Make sure you log in with the same email address that the confirmation email went to.
  • Make sure cookies are enabled. (At your iPhone or iPod touch home screen, tap the Settings app, tap Safari, then Accept Cookie, and then From Visited.)
  • Make sure you do not have internet restrictions set up. (At your iPhone or iPod touch home screen, tap the Settings icon, tap General, and then Restrictions.)

Multi-leg flights

TripIt sometimes shows a multi-leg flight as a single flight, which then doesn’t show up in FlightTrack Pro. We are working to create a fix in FlightTrack Pro to work around this problem. (If you split such a flight in your TripIt itinerary, then all of the legs will show up at FlightTrack Pro: Visit TripIt.com, click the Options pull-down menu for the flight, and choose Delete. Then, enter each leg of the flight by clicking “Add plans.”)

Flight “could not be recognized”

Usually, this means that a detail is incorrect or missing. (Some low-cost European airlines don’t provide advance info for their flights, so data may not be listed until just before flight time.)

  1. At TripIt.com, make sure that the airline and airport codes are listed and that the flight number and date are correct.
  2. In FlightTrack Pro, try Search by Route—but don’t specify an airline. (Airlines may change flight number or switch to a “regional affiliate” airline without informing passengers. To be sure, check the airline web site.)
  3. If needed, edit details of the flight at TripIt.com: On the same line as the flight, click on the Options pull-down menu, choose Edit, and then make needed changes.

Tips & Tricks

  • Completed flights: Flights imported from TripIt auto-delete in about a day.
  • Delay Forecast: Shows the past performance of a flight (when such data is available). To view: Save a flight, view the Details page for the flight, and then scroll down.
  • Duplicate flights: To delete a duplicate flight from your TripIt itinerary, visit TripIt.com, click the Options pull-down menu for a flight, and choose Delete
  • Push notifications: Are “free” (not counted as text messages). They report (when such info is provided by the airline, airport, or FAA) changes in gate, departure, or arrival, plus any time changes that are more than 10 minutes apart. Push notifications will not work consistently on a jailbroken iPhone.
